SR & ED Tax Incentive Program
The Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) program is a federal tax incentive program to encourage Canadian businesses to conduct research and development (R&D) in Canada.
Canadian businesses of all sizes and in all sectors can apply for SR&ED investment tax credits for expenditures such as wages, materials, machinery, equipment, some overhead, and SR&ED contracts. Generally, most Canadian businesses can receive a refundable investment tax credit of 20% to 35% of up to $2 million of qualifying SR&ED expenditures. The SR&ED program is the largest single source of federal government support for Canadian industrial research and development.
Further information on the SR&ED program can be found on the Canada Revenue Agency's (CRA) web site at http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/txcrdt/sred-rsde/menu-eng.html.
